our Services

Commercial Thinning Services

Pre Commercial Thinning (Facilitated)

Selection Harvesting Services

Commercial thinning reduces competition in maturing stands, allowing dominant crop trees to grow stronger and more valuable while maintaining ecological balance.

Selection Harvesting Services

Pre Commercial Thinning (Facilitated)

Selection Harvesting Services

Selection harvesting is a precise final-stage intervention completed by trained operators to support forest renewal while producing high-quality forest products.

Pre Commercial Thinning (Facilitated)

Pre Commercial Thinning (Facilitated)

Pre Commercial Thinning (Facilitated)

Pre-commercial thinning reduces overcrowding in young stands, selecting the best species and form to ensure healthy long-term growth.

Land Purchasing for Forest Management

Precision Forestry Technology

Using GPS, LiDAR, and drone tools, we optimize harvest planning, improve efficiency, protect sensitive areas, and support sustainable outcomes.

Forest Management

Forest Management Interventions

Next Generation is built on a strong passion for forestry and sustainable forest management practices. General forest management interventions include:

  • Planting, although approximately 85 percent of forests regenerate naturally, with planting used where needed to support healthy forest renewal.

  • Weeding improves the survival and growth of crop trees by reducing competing vegetation and helping desired species establish successfully.

  • Spacing (non-commercial or pre-commercial thinning) reduces overcrowding so trees have room to grow and thrive, typically when stands reach approximately two metres in height.

  • Spacing (commercial thinning) occurs once trees reach marketable size, reducing competition and improving growth, quality, and long-term forest value.

  • Harvesting is the final stage where trees are removed to produce forest products while supporting renewal of the forest cycle.

  •  Conservation Areas  protecting the environment by designating buffers, habitat corridors, mature stands, sensitive sites, and recreational or scenic areas where no harvesting occurs.

How We Addresses These Interventions

Next Generation approaches forest management interventions with a focus on education, precision, and long-term stewardship. The company supports sustainable forestry through:

  • Education, helping stakeholders understand responsible forestry practices and long-term forest stewardship.

  • Pre-commercial thinning, improving stand quality by reducing competition and strengthening long-term forest health.

  • Commercial thinning, carried out with company harvesters to enhance forest value while maintaining sustainability and stand integrity.

  • Selection harvesting, completed by trained harvester and forwarder operators to ensure precise, responsible removal that supports continued forest regeneration.

  • Leave as is, these zones are intentionally left untreated to protect water quality, wildlife habitat, soil stability, and the long-term health and enjoyment of the woodlot.

Precision Forestry

GPS, LiDAR, and drone technology are used to ensure each intervention is optimized. These tools form the foundation of precision forestry within Next Generation’s operations.

GPS Systems

Next Generation utilizes a GPS system that enables more precise, efficient, and sustainable forest management by improving mapping, operational efficiency, environmental protection, monitoring, and safety.

Operators share work areas to ensure full coverage and productive management of harvest areas. This GPS mapping supports precise operations, shared work coverage, improved safety, and reduced environmental impact.

LiDAR and Modern Data Tools

LiDAR and spatial data allow interventions to be optimized for long-term forest productivity and sustainability.

These technologies provide detailed terrain and canopy insights that support more informed planning, improved operational accuracy, and responsible forest stewardship over time.

Drone Monitoring

Drone footage supports planning, forest health monitoring, maturity assessment, and overall operational awareness. It provides valuable aerial insight that helps evaluate stand conditions, track changes over time, and improve decision-making.

This technology also enhances operational visibility, allowing for more efficient coordination, better environmental oversight, and informed management of harvest areas.
